I took my car in with a nick the size of a dime the day after it happened. They turned it into a 6" long crack and said that now I have to buy an entire new windshield!!

How is that even possible? They are supposed to know how to repair cracks. Either they don't know what they're doing or they did it on purpose so that I would have to buy a new windshield. I personally believe they did it on purpose so that they could turn the original $70 quote they gave me into a $400 job.

I now have no choice but to replace the windshield. It's ridiculous. Don't go there. Find another place.

Worst mistake I've ever made! (I plan on filing a complaint with the BBB)

Monetary Loss: $400.

Location: Woodbridge, Virginia

I hate to burst your bubble but before the car is touched they make you sign a form that says there is a possibility that the chip/crack maybe get bigger and no longer be repairable...

You do know that chips in glass still can crack during repairs right? its not guaranteed that it will be perfect or that it wouldn't crack out.

some customers obviously don't know anything about chip repair. It should have been discussed with the repair tech.

That. Is why they have you sign a waiver , in order for your glass to be repaired pressure is applied and when the pressure is applied there is always a chance that it will get larger .

They have you READ and Sign a waiver if you don't agree with that waiver then do not sign it and do not get a repair if you fully read the waiver you will understand and Safelite is not responsible if it cracks out. And I can assure you it was not done on purpose .

you took your chances when you signed the waiver. time just don't be cheap and invest in a windshield

You're a *** *** it's glass , sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't they tell you the repair isn't always possible , if they were a *** company your insurance wouldn't do business with them

You do realize it's glass, with is being glass and it having a tint chip with a small underlying crack so when you go to repair the windshield they have to use a small impact tool that makes the hole deeper in order for the glass repair resin to get into the layer of glass to deal it and make it structurally sounds. But there is a chance that the original crack my crack out and get bigger. You cannot predict the way the glass will react to the process.

The techs don't make a dime if your windshield cracks and you have to get a replacement. There is a limit on how big of cracks that can be repaired and honestly, if it had already spread that 6 inch crack could have easily become a 10 inch one.

Six inches is the very limit and cracks are a tricky thing to deal with.

I'm sure they also warned you ahead of time that this can happen, but I'm sure your eyes just glazed over.

I wish people actually knew what a scam was, instead of assuming every time they pay money is one.

You are a dumb consumer I know for the fact before getting a windshield repair they inform you it may well crack the glass even more and you will need full replacement. If most people weren't so greedy they assume their getting something for nothing and then whine when the free doesn't work out. They should have charged you double for being ***.

You did get scammed and they do that all day long to many others.
